(P)These are the secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down. [서] 이 은밀한 말씀들은 살아 있는 예수께서 말씀하시고 쌍둥이 유다 도마가 기록하였다.

(1) And he said, “Whoever finds the interpretation of these sayings will not experience death.” [제1장] 1그리고 그분께서 말씀하셨다, “이 말씀들을 깨닫는 자는 누구라도 죽음을 맛보지 않을 것이다.”

(2) Jesus said, “Let him who seeks continue seeking until he finds. When he finds, he will become troubled. When he becomes troubled, he will be astonished, and he will rule over the All.” [제2장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “추구하는 자들은 찾을 때까지 계속 추구하라. 2찾고 나면 고난 받을 것이다. 3고난 받으면 놀라와 할 것이며, 4모든 것을 다스릴 것이다.”

(3) Jesus said, “If those who lead you say to you, ‘See, the kingdom is in the sky,’ then the birds of the sky will precede you. If they say to you, ‘It is in the sea,’ then the fish will precede you. Rather, the kingdom is inside of you, and it is outside of you. When you come to know yourselves, then you will become known, and you will realize that it is you who are the sons of the living father. But if you will not know yourselves, you dwell in poverty and it is you who are that poverty.” [제3장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “너희를 인도하는 자들이 말하기를, ‘보라, 나라가 하늘에 있다’하면, 하늘의 새가 너희를 앞 설 것이다. 2그들이 너희에게 말하기를 ‘나라가 바다에 있다’하면 물고기가 너희를 앞 설 것이다. 3오히려 나라는 너희 안에 있고 너희 밖에 있다. 4너희가 자신을 알 때 너희를 알게 될 것이며, 너희가 바로 살아계신 아버지의 아들들임을 깨달을 것이다. 5그러나 너희가 자신을 모른다면 가난 중에 살게 되고 그 가난이 바로 너희이다.”

(4) Jesus said, “The man old in days will not hesitate to ask a small child seven days old about the place of life, and he will live. For many who are first will become last, and they will become one and the same.” [제4장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “나이 든 사람이 이레 된 작은 아이에게 삶의 자리에 대해 묻기를 망설이지 않으면 그 사람은 살 것이다. 2왜냐하면 첫째인 많은 사람이 꼴찌가 되고, 3그들이 하나된 자가 되기 때문이다.”

(5) Jesus said, “Recognize what is in your sight, and that which is hidden from you will become plain to you . For there is nothing hidden which will not become manifest.” [제5장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “ 네 눈에 보이는 것을 깨닫도록 하라. 그리하면 너에게 가리워진 것이 드러날 것이다. 2왜냐하면 숨기운 것이 나타나지 않는 것이 없기 때문이다.

(6) His disciples questioned him and said to him, “Do you want us to fast? How shall we pray? Shall we give alms? What diet shall we observe?” Jesus said, “Do not tell lies, and do not do what you hate, for all things are plain in the sight of heaven. For nothing hidden will not become manifest, and nothing covered will remain without being uncovered.” [제6장] 1그분을 따르는 자들이 그분께 여쭈어 말씀드리기를, “저희가 금식하기를 바라십니까? 저희는 어떻게 기도해야 합니까? 구제를 해야 합니까? 어떤 음식금기를 지켜야 합니까?” 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “거짓말 하지 말라, 3그리고 너희가 싫어하는 것을 하지 말라. 4하늘 앞에 모든 것이 드러나 있기 때문이다. 5왜냐하면 숨겨진 것이 나타나지 않는 것이 없고, 덮인 것이 벗겨지지 않음이 없기 때문이다.”

(7) Jesus said, “Blessed is the lion which becomes man when consumed by man; and cursed is the man whom the lion consumes, and the lion becomes man.” [제7장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “복되도다 사자여! 사람에게 먹혀 사람이 되도다. 2저주가 있으라 사람이여! 사자가 그대를 먹어 삼키고, 그 사자가 사람이 되도다.”

(8) And he said, “The man is like a wise fisherman who cast his net into the sea and drew it up from the sea full of small fish. Among them the wise fisherman found a fine large fish. He threw all the small fish back into the sea and chose the large fish without difficulty. Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.” [제8장] 1그리고 그분께서 말씀하시기를, “그 사람은 지혜로운 어부와 같다. 그 사람은 바다에 그물을 던져 작은 물고기들을 가득 건져 올렸다. 2그 중에서 지혜로운 어부는 멋지고 큰 고기 한 마리를 찾았다. 3그 사람은 작은 고기들을 모두 다시 바다에 던져놓고 어렵지 않게 큰 고기를 골랐다. 4누구라도 들을 귀가 있으면 듣게 하라.”

(9) Jesus said, “Now the sower went out, took a handful (of seeds), and scattered them. Some fell on the road; the birds came and gathered them up. Others fell on the rock, did not take root in the soil, and did not produce ears. And others fell on thorns; they choked the seed(s) and worms ate them. And others fell on the good soil and it produced good fruit: it bore sixty per measure and a hundred and twenty per measure.” [제9장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “보라! 파종하는 자가 씨앗을 듬뿍 쥐고 나가 그것들을 뿌렸다. 2더러는 길 위에 떨어져 새가 와서 먹어 버렸다. 3더러는 바위 위에 떨어져 흙에 뿌리를 내리지 못해 이삭을 내지 못했다. 4그리고 더러는 가시덤불에 떨어져 가시가 씨앗을 질식시켰고 벌레가 먹어버렸다. 5그리고 나머지는 좋은 토양 위에 떨어져 훌륭한 열매를 내었다. 씨앗은 육십 배 백이십 배 소출을 내었다.”

(10) Jesus said, “I have cast fire upon the world, and see, I am guarding it until it blazes.” [제10장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “내가 세상에 불을 던졌다. 그리고 보라! 나는 그 불이 활활 타오를 때까지 지키고 있다.”

(11) Jesus said, “This heaven will pass away, and the one above it will pass away. The dead are not alive, and the living will not die. In the days when you consumed what is dead, you made it what is alive. When you come to dwell in the light, what will you do? On the day when you were one you became two. But when you become two, what will you do?” [제11장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “이 하늘은 사라질 것이다, 그리고 이 하늘 위의 하늘도 사라질 것이다. 2죽은 자들은 살아 있지 않다, 그리고 살아 있는 자들은 죽지 않을 것이다. 3너희가 죽은 것들을 먹었던 그 날들에 너희가 그것을 살아 있는 것으로 만들었다. 너희가 빛 가운데 살 때 너희는 무엇을 할 것인가? 4너희가 하나였던 그 날 너희는 둘이 되었다. 그러나 너희가 둘이 될 때 너희는 무엇을 할 것인가?”

(12) The disciples said to Jesus, “We know that you will depart from us. Who is to be our leader?” Jesus said to them, “Wherever you are, you are to go to James the righteous, for whose sake heaven and earth came into being.” [제12장] 1따르는 자들이 예수께 말씀드리기를, “당신이 우리를 떠나가실 것을 압니다. 누가 우리의 지도자가 되어야겠습니까?” 2예수께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “너희가 어디에 있던지, 너희는 의로운 자 야고보에게 가야 한다. 그를 위하여 하늘과 땅이 생겨났다.”

(13) Jesus said to his disciples, “Compare me to someone and tell me whom I am like.” Simon Peter said to him, “You are like a righteous angel.” Matthew said to him, “You are like a wise philosopher.” Thomas said to him, “Master, my mouth is wholly incapable of saying whom you are like.” Jesus said, “I am not your master. Because you have drunk, you have become intoxicated from the bubbling spring which I have measured out.” And he took him and withdrew and told him three things. When Thomas returned to his companions, they asked him, “What did Jesus say to you?” Thomas said to them, “If I tell you one of the things which he told me, you will pick up stones and throw them at me; a fire will come out of the stones and burn you up.” [제13장] 1예수께서 따르는 자들에게 말씀하시기를, “나를 누군가와 비교해보고 내가 누구와 같은지 말해 보라.” 2시몬 베드로가 예수께 말씀드렸다: “당신은 의로운 천사와 같습니다.” 3마태가 예수께 말씀드렸다: “당신은 지혜로운 철학자 같습니다.” 4도마가 예수께 말씀드렸다: “스승님, 당신이 누구와 같은지 저의 입으로 전혀 말할 수 없습니다.” 5예수께서 말씀하시기를, “나는 너의 스승이 아니다. 너는 내가 마련해 놓은 광천샘을 마셨기에 취하였구나.” 6그리고 도마를 데리고 물러나 그에게 세 가지를 말씀하셨다. 7도마가 친구들에게 돌아 오니 그들이 물었다. “예수께서 너에게 무엇을 말하시든가?” 8도마가 그들에게 대답했다: “내가 예수께서 내게 말씀하신 것 중 한 가지라도 너희에게 말한다면, 너희가 돌을 들어 나에게 던질 것이며, 그 돌들에서 불이 나와 너희를 태워버릴 것이다.”

(14) Jesus said to them, “If you fast, you will give rise to sin for yourselves; and if you pray, you will be condemned; and if you give alms, you will do harm to your spirits. When you go into any land and walk about in the districts, if they receive you, eat what they will set before you, and heal the sick among them. For what goes into your mouth will not defile you, but that which issues from your mouth - it is that which will defile you.” [제14장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “너희가 금식 한다면 스스로 죄를 짓게 될 것이며, 2그리고 너희가 기도한다면, 너희는 정죄 받을 것이다. 3그리고 너희가 구제한다면, 너희는 너희 영에 해를 끼칠 것이다. 4너희가 어느 지방에 가든지 그곳 동네를 둘러보라. 사람들이 너희를 영접하면, 그들이 대접하는 것을 먹으라, 그리고 그들 중에 있는 병자(病者)를 고쳐주라. 5너희 입으로 들어가는 것이 너희를 더럽게 하지 않고, 너희 입으로부터 나오는 것, 바로 그것이 너희를 더럽게 하는 것이기 때문이다.”

(15) Jesus said, “When you see one who was not born of woman, prostrate yourselves on your faces and worship him. That one is your father.” [제15장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “여자의 몸을 통하지 않고 세상에 나온 자를 보거든 얼굴을 땅에 대고 경배하라. 그가 너의 아버지이다.”

(16) Jesus said, “Men think, perhaps, that it is peace which I have come to cast upon the world. They do not know that it is dissension which I have come to cast upon the earth: fire, sword, and war. For there will be five in a house: three will be against two, and two against three, the father against the son, and the son against the father. And they will stand solitary.” [제16장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “아마도 사람들은 내가 세상에 평화를 주러 온 줄 알 것이다. 2그들은 내가 이 땅에 불화를 주러 온 줄 모른다: 불, 칼, 전쟁을 주노라. 3한 집에 다섯 식구가 있을 때, 셋이 둘을 둘이 셋을, 아비가 자식을, 자식이 아비를 대적하기 때문이다. 4그리고 그들은 각기 홀로 설 것이다.”

(17) Jesus said, “I shall give you what no eye has seen and what no ear has heard and what no hand has touched and what has never occurred to the human mind.” [제17장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “어느 눈도 본 적이 없는, 어느 귀도 들은 적이 없는, 어느 손도 만져 본 적이 없는, 사람의 마음에서 결코 떠오르지 않은 것을 줄 것이다.”

(18) The disciples said to Jesus, “Tell us how our end will be.” Jesus said, “Have you discovered, then, the beginning, that you look for the end? For where the beginning is, there will the end be. Blessed is he who will take his place in the beginning; he will know the end and will not experience death.” [제18장] 따르는 자들이 예수께 말씀드리기를, “우리의 종말이 어떻게 될 지 말씀해 주십시오.” 예수께서 말씀하시기를, “그러면 너희가 시작을 발견하였는가? 그리하여 종말을 구하는가? 왜냐하면 시작이 있는 곳에 종말이 있기 때문이다. 시작에 자신의 자리를 두는 자는 복되도다. 그는 종말을 알 것이며 죽음을 맛보지 않을 것이다.”

(19) Jesus said, “Blessed is he who came into being before he came into being. If you become my disciples and listen to my words, these stones will minister to you. For there are five trees for you in Paradise which remain undisturbed summer and winter and whose leaves do not fall. Whoever becomes acquainted with them will not experience death.” [제19장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “존재하기 전에 존재한 자는 복되도다. 2너희가 나의 제자가 되어 나의 말을 듣는다면, 이 돌들이 너희를 섬길 것이다. 3왜냐하면 너희를 위해 낙원에 나무 다섯 그루가 있으니 여름과 겨울에 변하지 않으며 그 잎사귀들이 떨어지지 않기 때문이다. 4누구라도 그 나무들을 아는 사람은 죽음을 맛보지 않을 것이다.”

(20) The disciples said to Jesus, “Tell us what the kingdom of heaven is like.” He said to them, “It is like a mustard seed. It is the smallest of all seeds. But when it falls on tilled soil, it produces a great plant and becomes a shelter for birds of the sky.” [제20장] 1따르는 자들이 예수께 말씀드리기를, “하늘 나라가 무엇과 같은지 일러 주십시오.” 2그분께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “그것은 한 알의 겨자 씨와 같다. 3겨자씨는 모든 씨앗 중에서 가장 작다. 4하지만 갈아 놓은 땅에 떨어지면 거대한 식물을 내고 하늘의 새들을 위한 보금자리가 되느니라.”

(21) Mary said to Jesus, “Whom are your disciples like?” He said, “They are like children who have settled in a field which is not theirs. When the owners of the field come, they will say, ‘Let us have back our field.’ They (will) undress in their presence in order to let them have back their field and to give it back to them. Therefore I say, if the owner of a house knows that the thief is coming, he will begin his vigil before he comes and will not let him dig through into his house of his domain to carry away his goods. You, then, be on your guard against the world. Arm yourselves with great strength lest the robbers find a way to come to you, for the difficulty which you expect will (surely) materialize. Let there be among you a man of understanding. When the grain ripened, he came quickly with his sickle in his hand and reaped it. Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.” [제21장] 1마리아가 예수께 여쭈었다, “당신을 따르는 자들은 어떤 사람들입니까?” 2예수께서 말씀하시기를, “그들은 그들의 것이 아닌 밭에 사는 어린 아이들과 같다. 3밭의 주인들이 와서 ‘우리 밭을 우리에게 돌려 달라’ 할 것이다. 4아이들은 주인이 보는 앞에서 옷을 벗고 그들의 밭을 도로 가지도록 하여 밭을 돌려 줄 것이다. 5이런 연고로 내가 말한다, 집의 주인이 도적이 올 것을 알면, 도둑이 오기 전에 방비를 시작할 것이며, 그의 재물을 가져가려는 도둑이 그의 소유의 집에 도둑이 뚫고 들어오지 못하도록 할 것이다. 6그렇다면 너희는 세상에 대해 스스로 방비하도록 하라. 7너희 스스로 강력한 힘으로 무장하여 강도들이 너에게 다가오는 길을 찾지 못하도록 하라, 8왜냐하면 너희가 예상하는 어려움이 분명 다가올 것이기 때문이다. 9너희들 중에 깨달음을 지닌 자가 있으라. 곡식이 익었다면 그 사람이 곧 손에 낫을 들고 그것을 추수하였을 것이라. 누구라도 들을 귀가 있으면 듣게 하라.”

(22) Jesus saw infants being suckled. He said to his disciples, “These infants being suckled are like those who enter the kingdom.” They said to him, “Shall we then, as children, enter the kingdom?” Jesus said to them, “When you make the two one, and when you make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside, and the above like the below, and when you make the male and the female one and the same, so that the male not be male nor the female female; and when you fashion eyes in the place of an eye, and a hand in place of a hand, and a foot in place of a foot, and a likeness in place of a likeness; then will you enter the kingdom.” [제22장] 1예수께서 아기들이 젖을 빨고 있을 것을 보시었다. 2예수께서 그를 따르는 자들에게 말씀하시기를, “젖을 빨고 있는 이 아기들은 나라에 들어가는 자들과 같다.” 3그들이 예수께 말씀드렸다, “그러면, 우리도 아기라야 나라에 들어갈 수 있습니까?” 4예수께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “너희가 둘을 하나로 만들 때, 그리고 너희가 속을 겉과 같이, 겉을 속과 같이, 그리고 위를 아래와 같이 만들 때, 5그리고 너희가 남자와 여자를 하나된 자로 만들어 남자는 남자가 아니며 여자는 여자가 아닐 때, 6그리고 너희가 한 눈 대신 눈들을, 손을 위해 손을, 발을 위해 발을, 그리고 모습을 위해 모습을 만들 때, 그러면 너희는 나라에 들어갈 것이다.”

(23) Jesus said, “I shall choose you, one out of a thousand, and two out of ten thousand, and they shall stand as a single one.” [제23장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “내가 너희를 천에 하나, 만에 둘을 택할 것이다, 2그리고 그들은 하나된 자로 서 있게 될 것이다.”

(24) His disciples said to him, “Show us the place where you are, since it is necessary for us to seek it.” He said to them, “Whoever has ears, let him hear. There is light within a man of light, and he lights up the whole world. If he does not shine, he is darkness.” [제24장] 그분을 따르는 자들이 말씀드리기를, “우리에게 당신이 계신 자리를 보여 주십시오, 우리는 그것을 찾아야 합니다.” 2예수께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “귀를 가진 자는 누구라도 듣도록 하라. 3빛의 사람 속에 빛이 있다, 그리고 그 빛이 온 세상을 비춘다. 그것이 빛나지 않으면, 그것은 어둠이다.”

(25) Jesus said, “Love your brother like your soul, guard him like the pupil of your eye.” [제25장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “네 형제를 네 혼처럼 사랑하라, 2그를 네 눈의 동자처럼 보호하라.”

(26) Jesus said, “You see the mote in your brother’s eye, but you do not see the beam in your own eye. When you cast the beam out of your own eye, then you will see clearly to cast the mote from your brother’s eye.” [제26장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “네 형제 눈의 티끌은 보지만 네 눈 속의 들보는 보지 못하는구나. 2네 눈에서 들보를 빼낼 때에 비로서 네 형제의 눈에서 빼낼 티끌을 볼 수 있으리라.”

(27) “If you do not fast as regards the world, you will not find the kingdom. If you do not observe the Sabbath as a Sabbath, you will not see the father.” [제27장] 1(예수께서 말씀하시기를), “너희가 이 세상에 대해 금식하지 않으면, 나라를 발견하지 못하리라. 2너희가 안식일을 안식일로 지키지 않으면, 너희는 아버지를 볼 수 없을 것이다.”

(28) Jesus said, “I took my place in the midst of the world, and I appeared to them in flesh. I found all of them intoxicated; I found none of them thirsty. And my soul became afflicted for the sons of men, because they are blind in their hearts and do not have sight; for empty they came into the world, and empty too they seek to leave the world. But for the moment they are intoxicated. When they shake off their wine, then they will repent.” [제28장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “나는 이 세상 한 가운데 내 자리를 잡았다, 2그리고 나는 그들에게 육으로 나타났다. 나는 그들 모두 취해 있다는 것을 알았으며 그들 아무도 목마르지 않음을 알았다. 3그리고 나의 혼은 사람의 아들들을 위해 고통스러워 한다, 왜냐하면 그들은 가슴 깊이 멀어 보지 못하기 때문이다, 빈 채로 이 세상에 왔다가 빈 채로 이 세상을 떠나기를 추구하기 때문이다. 4그러나 지금 그들은 취해 있다. 그들이 포도주를 흔들어 버릴 때, 그들은 생각을 바꿀 것이다.”

(29) Jesus said, “If the flesh came into being because of spirit, it is a wonder. But if spirit came into being because of the body, it is a wonder of wonders. Indeed, I am amazed at how this great wealth has made its home in this poverty.” [제29장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “영으로 인해 육신이 왔다면, 그것은 기적이다. 2그러나 육신으로 인해 영이 왔다면, 그것은 기적 중의 기적이로다. 3진실로 내가 놀라와 하는 것은 어떻게 이토록 위대한 풍요가 이런 빈곤 속에 자리 잡았는가 하는 것이다.”

(30) Jesus said, “Where there are three gods, they are gods. Where there are two or one, I am with him.” [제30장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “세 신이 있는 곳이라면, 그들은 신들이다. 2둘 혹은 하나가 있다면, 나는 그와 함께 있다.”

(31) Jesus said, “No prophet is accepted in his own village; no physician heals those who know him.” [제31장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “선지자는 아무도 자신의 마을에서 환영 받지 못한다. 2의사는 아무도 그 의사를 아는 자들을 치료하지 않는다.”

(32) Jesus said, “A city being built on a high mountain and fortified cannot fall, nor can it be hidden.” [제32장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “높은 산 위에 요새처럼 지어진 마을은 무너질 수 없고 또한 숨겨질 수도 없다.”

(33) Jesus said, “Preach from your housetops that which you will hear in your ear. For no one lights a lamp and puts it under a bushel, nor does he put it in a hidden place, but rather he sets it on a lampstand so that everyone who enters and leaves will see its light.” [제33장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “너희 귀로 듣는 것을 너희 지붕 위에서 전파하라. 2어느 누구도 등불을 켜서 됫박 아래 두지 않으며, 그것을 숨겨진 자리에 두지도 않는다, 3오히려 그것을 등경 위에 걸어두어 들어오고 나가는 모든 사람이 그 빛을 볼 것이다.”

(34) Jesus said, “If a blind man leads a blind man, they will both fall into a pit.” [제34장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “소경이 소경을 인도하면 둘 다 구덩이에 빠지리라.”

(35) Jesus said, “It is not possible for anyone to enter the house of a strong man and take it by force unless he binds his hands; then he will (be able to) ransack his house.” [제35장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “누구라도 강한 자의 집에 들어가 힘으로 빼앗을 수 있으려면 그의 손을 결박해야 한다, 2그리하면 그의 집을 구석구석 약탈할 수 있으리라.”

(36) Jesus said, “Do not be concerned from morning until evening and from evening until morning about what you will wear.” [제36장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “아침부터 저녁까지 또 저녁부터 아침까지 무엇을 입을까 염려하지 말라.”

(37) His disciples said, “When will you become revealed to us and when shall we see you?” Jesus said, “When you disrobe without being ashamed and take up your garments and place them under your feet like little children and tread on them, then will you see the son of the living one, and you will not be afraid” [제37장] 1예수를 따르는 자들이 말씀드리기를, “언제 당신은 우리에게 드러나실 것입니까 그리고 언제 우리가 당신을 보게 됩니까?” 2예수께서 말씀하시기를, “너희들이 어린 아이들처럼 부끄럼 없이 옷을 발가벗고 그 옷을 들어 발 아래 둘 때, 3비로소 너희들은 살아 있는 자의 아들을 볼 것이며, 두려워하지 않을 것이다.”

(38) Jesus said, “Many times have you desired to hear these words which I am saying to you, and you have no one else to hear them from. There will be days when you will look for me and will not find me.” [제38장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “여러 번 너희는 내가 지금 너희에게 하는 이 말씀들을 듣기를 간구하였다, 그런데 너희에게 이 말씀들을 들려 줄 아무도 없도다. 2너희들이 나를 찾겠지만 나를 발견하지 못할 날들이 있을 것이다.”

(39) Jesus said, “The pharisees and the scribes have taken the keys of knowledge (gnosis) and hidden them. They themselves have not entered, nor have they allowed to enter those who wish to. You, however, be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves.” [제39장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “바리새인들과 서기관들이 지식의 열쇠를 차지하고 숨겨 버렸다. 2그들은 스스로 들어가지 않았고 또한 소원하는 자들이 들어가도록 허락하지도 않았다. 3그러므로 너희는 뱀처럼 지혜롭고 비둘기처럼 순결 하라.”

(40) Jesus said, “A grapevine has been planted outside of the father, but being unsound, it will be pulled up by its roots and destroyed.” [제40장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “포도나무 한 그루가 아버지 밖에 심겼다, 2하지만 튼튼하지 못하므로, 그것은 뿌리째 뽑히어 소멸될 것이다.”

(41) Jesus said, “Whoever has something in his hand will receive more, and whoever has nothing will be deprived of even the little he has.” [제41장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “손에 무엇이라도 지닌 자는 더 받게 될 것이며, 2그리고 아무것도 지니지 못한 자는 그가 지닌 조그만 것조차 빼앗길 것이다.”

(42) Jesus said, “Become passers-by.” [제42장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “방랑자들이 되어라.”

(43) His disciples said to him, “Who are you, that you should say these things to us?” “You do not realize who I am from what I say to you, but you have become like the Jews, for they (either) love the tree and hate its fruit (or) love the fruit and hate the tree.” [제43장] 1예수를 따르는 자들이 여쭙기를, “당신은 누구시기에, 우리에게 이런 일들을 말씀해 주십니까?” 2(예수께서 말씀하시기를,) “내가 너희에게 말하는 것으로 너희는 내가 누구인지 알아내지도 못하고, 3유대인들처럼 되어버렸다, 왜냐하면 그들은 나무는 사랑하지만 그 열매를 미워하거나, 열매를 사랑하지만 그 나무를 미워하기 때문이다.”

(44) Jesus said, “Whoever blasphemes against the father will be forgiven, and whoever blasphemes against the son will be forgiven, but whoever blasphemes against the holy spirit will not be forgiven either on earth or in heaven.” [제44장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “누구든지 아버지를 모독하는 자는 용서받을 것이다, 2그리고 누구든지 아들을 모독하는 자는 용서 받을 수 있다, 3그러나 누구든지 성령을 모독하는 자는 땅에서도 하늘에서도 용서받지 못할 것이다.”

(45) Jesus said, “Grapes are not harvested from thorns, nor are figs gathered from thistles, for they do not produce fruit. A good man brings forth good from his storehouse; an evil man brings forth evil things from his evil storehouse, which is in his heart, and says evil things. For out of the abundance of the heart he brings forth evil things.” [제45장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “포도는 가시나무에서 수확되지 않고, 무화과 또한 엉겅퀴에서 수확되지 않는다, 왜냐하면 이들은 열매를 맺지 않기 때문이다. 2선한 사람은 그의 창고에서 선한 것을 내어온다, 3 하지만 악한 사람은 그의 가슴속 악한 창고에서 악한 것을 내어오며, 악한 것들을 말한다. 왜냐하면 가슴속에 넘치는 것으로부터 그는 악한 것들을 내어오기 때문이다.”

(46) Jesus said, “Among those born of women, from Adam until John the Baptist, there is no one so superior to John the Baptist that his eyes should not be lowered (before him). Yet I have said, whichever one of you comes to be a child will be acquainted with the kingdom and will become superior to John.” [제46장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “여자로부터 난 자 중에, 아담에서 세례 요한에 이르기까지, 세례 요한보다 더 뛰어난 이는 없으므로 그 앞에서 세례 요한의 눈이 찌푸려지도록 해선 안 된다. 2내가 이미 말했듯이, 너희 중 누구라도 아이가 되는 자는 나라를 알게 되고 요한보다 뛰어나게 될 것이다.”

(47) Jesus said, “It is impossible for a man to mount two horses or to stretch two bows. And it is impossible for a servant to serve two masters; otherwise, he will honor the one and treat the other contemptuously. No man drinks old wine and immediately desires to drink new wine. And new wine is not put into old wineskins, lest they burst; nor is old wine put into a new wineskin, lest it spoil it. An old patch is not sewn onto a new garment, because a tear would result.” [제47장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “한 사람이 두 말에 올라타거나 두 활을 당길 수 없다. 2그리고 한 종이 두 주인을 섬길 수 없다, 그렇지 않으면, 이 주인은 존경하고 저 주인은 업신여길 것이다. 3어느 누구도 묵은 포도주를 마시고 즉시 갓 빚은 포도주를 마시고 싶어 하지 않는다. 4그리고 새 포도주는 낡은 가죽부대에 넣지 않는다, 그렇지 않으면 가죽부대는 터져버린다. 묵은 포도주는 새 가죽부대에 넣지 않는다, 그렇지 않으면 맛을 버릴 것이다. 5낡은 옷 조각을 새 옷에 기워 붙이지 않는다, 왜냐하면 결국 터져버리기 때문이다.”

(48) Jesus said, “If two make peace with each other in this one house, they will say to the mountain, ‘Move Away,’ and it will move away.” [제48장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “이 한 집 안에서 둘이 서로 평화를 이루고, 2그들이 산을 보고 ‘움직여라’라고 말한다면, 산이 움직일 것이다.”

(49) Jesus said, “Blessed are the solitary and elect, for you will find the kingdom. For you are from it, and to it you will return.” [제49장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “복이 있도다 홀로되고 선택된 자여, 너희는 나라를 발견할 것이기 때문이다. 2왜냐하면 너희는 나라에서 왔고 나라로 돌아갈 것이기 때문이다.”

(50) Jesus said, “If they say to you, ‘Where did you come from?’, say to them, ‘We came from the light, the place where the light came into being on its own accord and established itself and became manifest through their image.’ If they say to you, ‘Is it you?’, say, ‘We are its children, we are the elect of the living father.’ If they ask you, ‘What is the sign of your father in you?’, say to them, ‘It is movement and repose.’“ [제50장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “그들이 너희에게 묻기를, ‘너희는 어디서 왔는가?’하면, 그들에게 말하라, ‘우리는 빛에서 왔도다, 그리고 그곳은 빛이 스스로 생겼으며, 일어났으며, 그들의 형상으로 드러나게 되었다.’ 2만약 그들이 너희에게 묻기를, ‘그 빛이 너희인가?’하면, 말하라, ‘우리는 빛의 아이들이다, 우리는 살아있는 아버지의 선택된 자들이다.’ 3만약 그들이 너희에게 묻기를, ‘너희 안에 있는 너희 아버지의 증거가 무엇인가?’라고 하면, 그들에게 말하라,4’그것은 운동이며, 안식이다.’”

(51) His disciples said to him, “When will the repose of the dead come about, and when will the new world come?” He said to them, “What you look forward to has already come, but you do not recognize it.” [제51장] 1예수를 따르는 자들이 그분께 말씀드리기를, “언제 죽은 자들을 위한 안식이 일어납니까? 그리고 언제 새 세상이 옵니까?” 2예수께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “너희가 기다리는 것은 이미 와 있다, 단지 너희가 그것을 깨닫지 못할 뿐이다.”

(52) His disciples said to him, “Twenty-four prophets spoke in Israel, and all of them spoke in you.” He said to them, “You have omitted the one living in your presence and have spoken (only) of the dead.” [제52장] 1예수를 따르는 자들이 그분께 말씀드리기를, “스물넷 예언자들이 이스라엘에서 말했습니다. 그리고 그들 모두 당신을 말했습니다.” 2예수께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “너희들이 너희 앞에 살아 있는 자는 생략하고 오직 죽은 자들만 말했도다.”

(53) His disciples said to him, “Is circumcision beneficial or not?” He said to them, “If it were beneficial, their father would beget them already circumcised from their mother. Rather, the true circumcision in spirit has become completely profitable.” [제53장] 1예수를 따르는 자들이 그분께 말씀드리기를, “할례가 유익합니까 유익하지 않습니까?” 2예수께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “만일 할례가 유익하다면 그들의 아버지가 아이들을 그들 엄마의 뱃속에서 이미 할례 된 채로 낳도록 하였을 것이다. 3오히려, 영 안에서의 참된 할례가 온전히 이익이 되었도다.”

(54) Jesus said, “Blessed are the poor, for yours is the kingdom of heaven.” [제54장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “가난한 자는 복이 있으니, 하늘 나라가 너희 것이기 때문이다.”

(55) Jesus said, “Whoever does not hate his father and his mother cannot become a disciple to me. And whoever does not hate his brothers and sisters and take up his cross in my way will not be worthy of me.” [제55장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “누구든지 그의 아버지와 그의 어머니를 미워하지 않으면 나를 따르는 자가 될 수 없다. 2그리고 누구든지 그의 형제와 그의 자매를 미워하지 않고 나의 길에서 그 자신의 십자가를 지지 않으면 내게 합당하지 않다.”

(56) Jesus said, “Whoever has come to understand the world has found (only) a corpse, and whoever has found a corpse is superior to the world.” [제56장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “누구라도 이 세상을 깨달은 자는 오직 시체를 발견하였다, 2그리고 누구라도 시체를 발견한 자는 이 세상보다 뛰어나다.”

(57) Jesus said, “The kingdom of the father is like a man who had good seed. His enemy came by night and sowed weeds among the good seed. The man did not allow them to pull up the weeds; he said to them, ‘I am afraid that you will go intending to pull up the weeds and pull up the wheat along with them.’ For on the day of the harvest the weeds will be plainly visible, and they will be pulled up and burned.” [제57장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “아버지의 나라는 좋은 씨를 가진 사람과 같다. 그의 원수가 밤에 와서 좋은 씨들 사이에 잡초를 심었다. 3그 사람은 사람들에게 잡초를 뽑으라고 하지 않았다, 오히려 그들에게 말하기를, ‘너희들이 잡초를 뽑으려 하다가 그와 함께 곡식까지 뽑을까 염려스럽다.’ 4왜냐하면 추수하는 날에 잡초들은 쉽게 보이며, 뽑히어 불살라질 것이기 때문이다.”

(58) Jesus said, “Blessed is the man who has suffered and found life.” [제58장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “고통을 겪고 삶을 발견한 자는 복이 있도다.”

(59) Jesus said, “Take heed of the living one while you are alive, lest you die and seek to see him and be unable to do so.” [제59장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “너희가 살아 있는 동안 살아있는 자를 유의하라, 그렇지 않으면 너희가 죽어서 아무리 그를 보고자 하여도 그리할 수 없으리라.”

(60) a Samaritan carrying a lamb on his way to Judea. He said to his disciples, “That man is round about the lamb.” They said to him, “So that he may kill it and eat it.” He said to them, “While it is alive, he will not eat it, but only when he has killed it and it has become a corpse.” They said to him, “He cannot do so otherwise.” He said to them, “You too, look for a place for yourself within repose, lest you become a corpse and be eaten.” [제60장] 1한 사마리아 인이 양을 들고 유대지방으로 가고 있었다. 2예수께서 따르는 자들에게 말씀하시기를, “저 사람이 양을 메고 가는구나.” 3그들이 예수께 말씀드리기를, “양을 죽여서 먹고자 하기 때문입니다.” 4예수께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “양이 살아 있는 동안은, 그가 먹지 않을 것이다, 그러나 양을 죽였고 그것이 시체가 되었다면 먹을 것이다.” 5따르는 자들이 말씀드리기를, “달리 할 수는 없습니다.” 6예수께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “너희들도 그러하다, 너희 스스로 안식 안에서 자리를 구하라, 그렇지 않으면 너희도 시체가 되어 먹히리라.”

(61) Jesus said, “Two will rest on a bed: the one will die, and the other will live.” Salome said, “Who are you, man, that you ... have come up on my couch and eaten from my table?” Jesus said to her, “I am he who exists from the undivided. I was given some of the things of my father.” <...> “I am your disciple.” <...> “Therefore I say, if he is destroyed, he will be filled with light, but if he is divided, he will be filled with darkness.” [제61장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “둘이 한 침대 위에서 휴식할 것이다. 하나는 죽을 것이며 다른 하나는 살 것이다.” 2살로메가 말씀드리기를, “남자여, 당신은 누구십니까? 당신은 나의 침대에 올라 나의 밥상에서 식사를 하였습니다.” 3예수께서 그녀에게 말씀하시기를, “나는 분열되지 앉은 자로부터 존재하는 사람이다. 나는 아버지가 소유한 것들을 받았느니라.” 4살로메가 말씀드리기를, “저는 당신을 따르는 자입니다.” 5예수께서 말씀하시기를, “그러므로 내가 말하노라, 만일 누구라도 분열되지 않은 온전함에 있다면, 그는 빛으로 가득 찰 것이다, 누구라도 사람이 분열되면, 어두움으로 가득 차리라.”

(62) Jesus said, “It is to those who are worthy of my mysteries that I tell my mysteries. Do not let your left (hand) know what your right (hand) is doing.” [제62장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “나는 나의 신비함 들에 합당한 자들에게 나의 신비로운 가르침들을 말하노라. 2너의 오른 손이 하는 일을 너의 왼 손이 알지 않도록 하라.”

(63) Jesus said, “There was a rich man who had much money. He said, ‘I shall put my money to use so that I may sow, reap, plant, and fill my storehouse with produce, with the result that I shall lack nothing.’ Such were his intentions, but that same night he died. Let him who has ears hear.” [제63장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “많은 돈을 지닌 부자가 있었다. 그가 말하기를, ‘나의 돈을 투자하여 뿌리고, 거두고, 심고하여 나의 창고를 곡식으로 채울 것이다, 그리하여 부족함이 없으리라.’ 그의 의중은 그러했다. 바로 그날 밤 그는 죽었다. 귀가 있는 자는 들으라.”

(64) Jesus said, “A man had received visitors. And when he had prepared the dinner, he sent his servant to invite the guests. He went to the first one and said to him, ‘My master invites you.’ He said, ‘I have claims against some merchants. They are coming to me this evening. I must go and give them my orders. I ask to be excused from the dinner.’ He went to another and said to him, ‘My master has invited you.’ He said to him, ‘I have just bought a house and am required for the day. I shall not have any spare time.’ He went to another and said to him, ‘My master invites you.’ He said to him, ‘My friend is going to get married, and I am to prepare the banquet. I shall not be able to come. I ask to be excused from the dinner.’ He went to another and said to him, ‘My master invites you.’ He said to him, ‘I have just bought a farm, and I am on my way to collect the rent. I shall not be able to come. I ask to be excused.’ The servant returned and said to his master, ‘Those whom you invited to the dinner have asked to be excused.’ The master said to his servant, ‘Go outside to the streets and bring back those whom you happen to meet, so that they may dine.’ Businessmen and merchants will not enter the places of my father.” [제64장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “한 사람이 손님을 맞았다. 만찬을 준비를 끝낸 뒤, 종을 시켜 손님들을 초대하러 보냈다. 2그 종이 첫 째 사람에게 말하기를, ‘저의 주인께서 당신을 초대합니다.’ 3그 사람이 말하기를, ‘몇몇 상인들이 내게 빛을 지었습니다, 그리고 그들이 오늘 밤 내게 올 것입니다. 내가 가서 그들에게 지시를 해야 합니다. 만찬에 가지 못함을 용서해 주십시오.’ 4그 종은 다른 사람에게 가서 그 사람에게 말하기를, ‘저의 주인이 당신을 초대하셨습니다.’ 5그 사람이 종에게 말하기를, ‘제가 집을 한 채 샀습니다, 그러니 하루 동안 붙들려 있어야 합니다. 저는 시간이 없을 것입니다.’ 6그 종은 또 다른 사람에게 갔다 그리고 7그 사람에게 말하기를, ‘저의 주인이 당신을 초대합니다.’ 그 사람이 종에게 말하기를, ‘나의 친구가 결혼합니다, 그러니 내가 연회를 준비하기로 되어 있습니다. 저는 갈 수가 없습니다. 만찬에 갈 수 없음을 용서하십시오.’ 8그 종은 또 다른 사람에게 갔다 그리고 그에게 말하기를, ‘나의 주인이 당신을 초대합니다.’ 9그 사람이 종에게 말하기를, ‘나는 농장을 하나 샀습니다 그래서 소작료를 거두러 가야 합니다. 용서하여 주십시오.’ 10그 종이 그의 주인에게 돌아와서 말하기를, ‘당신께서 만찬에 초대한 사람들이 사양함을 용서해달라고 했습니다.’ 11주인이 그 종에게 말하기를, ‘거리에 나가서 만찬을 들고자 하는 누구라도 데리고 오라.’ 12구매자들과 상인들은 나의 아버지의 자리들에 들어오지 못하리라.”

(65) He said, “There was a good man who owned a vineyard. He leased it to tenant farmers so that they might work it and he might collect the produce from them. He sent his servant so that the tenants might give him the produce of the vineyard. They seized his servant and beat him, all but killing him. The servant went back and told his master. The master said, ‘Perhaps he did not recognize them.’ He sent another servant. The tenants beat this one as well. Then the owner sent his son and said, ‘Perhaps they will show respect to my son.’ Because the tenants knew that it was he who was the heir to the vineyard, they seized him and killed him. Let him who has ears hear.” [제65장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “포도원을 소유한 한 사람이 있었다 그리고 포도원을 몇몇 농부들에게 빌려주어, 그들이 포도원을 경작하도록 하고 그들로부터 소출을 거두도록 하였다. 2그가 그의 종을 보내어 농부들이 그에게 포도원의 소출을 내어놓도록 하였다. 3그들은 그 종을 붙잡고, 그를 거의 죽도록 때렸다, 그리고 그 종은 돌아가서 그의 주인에게 말했다. 4그의 주인이 말하기를, ‘아마 그가 그들을 알지 못한 것 같구나.’ 5그는 다른 종을 보냈다 그러나 농부들은 그 종도 마찬가지로 때렸다. 6그러자 주인은 그의 아들을 보내며 말하기를, ‘아마도 그들이 나의 아들에게 어느 정도 존경심을 보일 것이다.’ 7농부들은 그가 포도원의 상속자임을 알았기 때문에, 그들은 그를 붙잡아 죽였다. 8여기 누구라도 귀가 있는 자는 듣도록 하라.”

(66) Jesus said, “Show me the stone which the builders have rejected. That one is the cornerstone.” [제66장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “집 짓는 자들이 버린 그 돌을 나에게 보여달라. 그것이 바로 모퉁이 돌이니라.”

(67) Jesus said, “If one who knows the all still feels a personal deficiency, he is completely deficient.” [제67장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “누가 모든 것을 안다고 해도 자기의 부족함을 모른다면, 완전히 부족한 자이다.”

(68) Jesus said, “Blessed are you when you are hated and persecuted. Wherever you have been persecuted they will find no place.” [제68장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “너희가 미움을 당하고 박해 받을 때 너희는 복이 있도다! 너희가 박해 받은 곳 어디에든 사람들이 아무 자리도 찾을 수 없다.”

(69) Jesus said, “Blessed are they who have been persecuted within themselves. It is they who have truly come to know the father. Blessed are the hungry, for the belly of him who desires will be filled.” [제69장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “마음 안에서 박해 받은 자는 복이 있도다! 그들은 참으로 아버지를 알게 된 자들이로다. 2굶주린 자들이여 복이 있도다! 배고픈 자의 배가 채워질 것이기 때문이다.”

(70) Jesus said, “That which you have will save you if you bring it forth from yourselves. That which you do not have within you will kill you if you do not have it within you.” [제70장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “만약 너희가 너희 안에 있는 것을 내어 놓는다면, 너희가 가진 것이 너희를 살릴 것이다. 2만약 너희가 너희 안에 그것을 가지고 있지 않다면, 너희 안에 너희가 가지지 못한 것이 너희를 죽이리라.”

(71) Jesus said, “I shall destroy this house, and no one will be able to build it [...].” [제71장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “내가 이 집을 헐겠다, 그러면 아무도 그것을 짓지 못하리라.”

(72) A man said to him, “Tell my brothers to divide my father’s possessions with me.” He said to him, “O man, who has made me a divider?” He turned to his disciples and said to them, “I am not a divider, am I?” [제72장] 1한 사람이 그분께 말씀드리기를, “나의 형제들에게 명하여 나의 아버지의 재산을 나와 함께 분할하도록 하십시오. 2예수께서 그에게 말씀하시기를, “이보게, 누가 나를 분할자로 임명했는가?” 3그분이 따르는 자들에게 돌아서서 말씀하시기를, “나는 분할자가 아니다, 그렇지 않은가?”

(73) Jesus said, “The harvest is great but the laborers are few. Beseech the Lord, therefore, to send out laborers to the harvest.” [제73장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “추수할 것은 많은데 일꾼이 적다, 2그러므로 추수 책임자에게 들판에 일꾼들을 보내도록 요청하라.”

(74) He said, “O Lord, there are many around the drinking trough, but there is nothing in the cistern.” [제74장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “주여, 물통 옆에 사람들이 많이 있나이다, 그러나 샘 안에는 아무 것도 없나이다.”

(75) Jesus said, “Many are standing at the door, but it is the solitary who will enter the bridal chamber.” [제75장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “문간에 서있는 자는 많다, 그러나 하나인 자가 신부의 방에 들어갈 것이다.”

(76) Jesus said, “The kingdom of the father is like a merchant who had a consignment of merchandise and who discovered a pearl. That merchant was shrewd. He sold the merchandise and bought the pearl alone for himself. You too, seek his unfailing and enduring treasure where no moth comes near to devour and no worm destroys.” [제76장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “아버지의 나라는 많은 상품을 지녔다가 한 개의 진주를 발견 한 상인과 같다. 2그 상인은 신중하였다. 그는 상품을 팔고 자신을 위해 그 단 하나의 진주를 샀다. 3그러므로 너희도 그러 하라, 이 믿을 수 있는 보물을 구하라, 이 보물은 영원하여, 나방이 와서 먹지 않고 벌레가 못쓰게 하지 않는다.”

(77) Jesus said, “It is I who am the light which is above them all. It is I who am the all. From me did the all come forth, and unto me did the all extend. Split a piece of wood, and I am there. Lift up the stone, and you will find me there.” [제77장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “나는 모든 존재 위에 있는 빛이다. 나는 전부이다. 나로부터 모든 것이 나왔다, 그리고 나에게로 모든 것이 돌아온다. 2나무 한 토막을 쪼개어 보라, 그러면 거기에 내가 있다. 3돌을 들어 보라, 그러면 거기서 나를 발견할 것이다.”

(78) Jesus said, “Why have you come out into the desert? To see a reed shaken by the wind? And to see a man clothed in fine garments like your kings and your great men? Upon them are the fine garments, and they are unable to discern the truth.” [제78장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “너희는 무엇 때문에 시골까지 왔는가? 바람에 흔들리는 갈대를 보려 함인가? 2그러면 너희 통치자들과 너희의 권력자들이 입은 것 같은 부드러운 옷을 두른 사람을 만나기 위함인가? 그들은 부드러운 옷을 둘렀다, 그럼에도 그들은 진리를 깨닫지 못한다.”

(79) A woman from the crowd said to him, “Blessed are the womb which bore you and the breasts which nourished you.” He said to her, “Blessed are those who have heard the word of the father and have truly kept it. For there will be days when you will say, ‘Blessed are the womb which has not conceived and the breasts which have not given milk.’“ [제79장] 1군중 속의 한 여인이 예수께 말씀드리기를, “당신을 낳은 자궁과 당신을 먹인 유방은 복이 있습니다!” 2예수께서 그 여인에게 말씀하시기를, “아버지의 말씀을 듣고 그것을 참되게 지킨 자는 복이 있도다! 3왜냐하면 너희가 ‘아기를 밴 적이 없는 자궁과 젖을 먹인 적이 없는 유방은 복되도다!’라고 말할 날이 올 것이기 때문이라.”

(80) Jesus said, “He who has recognized the world has found the body, but he who has found the body is superior to the world.” [제80장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “누구든지 이 세상을 알게 된 사람은 육신을 발견하였다, 2그리고 누구든지 육신을 발견한 사람에게 이 세상은 가치가 없다.”

(81) Jesus said, “Let him who has grown rich be king, and let him who possesses power renounce it.” [제81장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “부유하게 된 자가 다스리도록 하라, 2그리고 힘을 가진 자가 그것을 부정하게 하라.”

(82) Jesus said, “He who is near me is near the fire, and he who is far from me is far from the kingdom.” [제82장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “누구든지 나와 가까이 있는 자는 불 옆에 있다, 2그리고 누구든지 나와 멀리 있는 자는 나라에서 멀리 있다.”

(83) Jesus said, “The images are manifest to man, but the light in them remains concealed in the image of the light of the father. He will become manifest, but his image will remain concealed by his light.” [제83장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “모습들은 사람들에게 보인다, 그러나 그들 안에 있는 빛은 아버지의 빛의 모습 속에 가리워진다. 2아버지는 나타날 것이다, 그러나 그의 모습은 그의 빛으로 숨겨져 있다.”

(84) Jesus said, “When you see your likeness, you rejoice. But when you see your images which came into being before you, and which neither die not become manifest, how much you will have to bear!” [제84장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “너희가 너희를 닮은 모습을 보면, 너희는 행복하다. 2그러나 너희 이전에 존재하였으며 죽지도 않고 보이지도 않게 된 너희 모습을 너희가 본다면, 너희는 과연 얼마나 감내해야 할 것인가!”

(85) Jesus said, “Adam came into being from a great power and a great wealth, but he did not become worthy of you. For had he been worthy, he would not have experienced death.” [제85장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “아담은 거대한 힘과 거대한 부를 가지고 태어났으나, 그는 너희만큼 합당하지 않다. 왜냐하면, 그가 합당한 자였다면, 그는 죽음을 맛보지 않았을 것이기 때문이다.”

(86) Jesus said, “The foxes have their holes and the birds have their nests, but the son of man has no place to lay his head and rest.” [제86장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “여우들도 그들의 굴이 있고 새들도 그들의 둥지가 있지만, 2사람의 아들은 머리를 뉘어 쉴 자리가 없도다.”

(87) Jesus said, “Wretched is the body that is dependent upon a body, and wretched is the soul that is dependent on these two.” [제87장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “한 육신에 매달리는 그 육신은 얼마나 비참한가, 그리고 이 두 육신에 매달리는 혼은 얼마나 비참한가!”

(88) Jesus said, “The angels and the prophets will come to you and give to you those things you (already) have. And you too, give them those things which you have, and say to yourselves, ‘When will they come and take what is theirs?’“ [제88장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “천사들과 선지자들이 너희에게 올 것이다 그리고 이미 너희에게 속한 것을 너희에게 줄 것이다. 너희도, 보답으로, 그들에게 너희가 가진 것을 주도록 하라 그리고 자문해보라, ‘그들은 언제 와서 그들에게 속한 것을 가져갈 것인가?’”

(89) Jesus said, “Why do you wash the outside of the cup? Do you not realize that he who made the inside is the same one who made the outside?” [제89장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “어찌하여 너희는 잔의 겉만을 씻는가? 안을 만드신 이가 또한 겉을 만드신 이라는 것을 깨닫지 못하는가?”

(90) Jesus said, “Come unto me, for my yoke is easy and my lordship is mild, and you will find repose for yourselves.” [제90장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “나에게로 오라! 나의 멍에는 편안하고 나의 다스림은 부드럽다, 2그리고 너희는 너희 자신을 위하여 안식을 찾으리라.”

(91) They said to him, “Tell us who you are so that we may believe in you.” He said to them, “You read the face of the sky and of the earth, but you have not recognized the one who is before you, and you do not know how to read this moment.” [제91장] 1그들이 예수께 말씀드리기를, “당신이 누구인지 말씀해 주시어 당신을 믿도록 하여 주소서.” 2예수께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “너희는 하늘과 땅의 표정은 읽을 줄 안다, 그러나 너희 면전에 있는 그 분을 알지 못한다, 그러므로 너희는 이 순간을 알지 못하는 것이다.”

(92) Jesus said, “Seek and you will find. Yet, what you asked me about in former times and which I did not tell you then, now I do desire to tell, but you do not inquire after it.” [제92장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “구하라 그러면 발견 할 것이다. 2하지만, 전에는 너희가 그 때 내게 묻는 것들을 너희에게 알려 주지 않았다. 지금은 내가 그것들을 말해주고자 하나 그것들을 구하는 자들이 없다.”

(93) “Do not give what is holy to dogs, lest they throw them on the dung-heap. Do not throw the pearls to swine, lest they [...] it [...].” [제93장] 1(예수께서 말씀하시기를,) “거룩한 것을 개들에게 주지 말라, 왜냐하면 그들이 그것들을 똥 더미에 버릴 수 있기 때문이다. 2진주들을 돼지들에게 주지 말라, 그렇지 않으면 그것이 진창에 묻힐 것이기 때문이다.”

(94) Jesus said, “He who seeks will find, and he who knocks will be let in.” [제94장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “찾는 자는 발견할 것이다. 두드리는 자에게 열릴 것이다.”

(95) Jesus said, “If you have money, do not lend it at interest, but give it to one from whom you will not get it back.” [제95장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “너희가 돈이 있다면, 이자를 받고 빌려주지 말라. 2차라리, 그 돈을 돌려 받을 수 없는 사람에게 주어라.”

(96) Jesus said, “The kingdom of the father is like a certain woman. She took a little leaven, concealed it in some dough, and made it into large loaves. Let him who has ears hear.” [제96장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “아버지의 나라는 한 여인과 같다. 2그 여인은 약간의 효모를 떼어다, 반죽 속에 숨기고, 커다란 빵 덩어리들로 만들었다. 3귀가 있는 자는 누구든지 들으라!”

(97) Jesus said, “The kingdom of the father is like a certain woman who was carrying a jar full of meal. While she was walking on the road, still some distance from home, the handle of the jar broke and the meal emptied out behind her on the road. She did not realize it; she had noticed no accident. When she reached her house, she set the jar down and found it empty.” [제97장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “아버지의 나라는 밀가루 가득한 동이를 이고 가는 한 여인과 같다. 2그녀가 먼 길을 걸어가는 동안, 동이 손잡이가 부서져 그녀의 길 뒤편으로 밀가루가 날려 나갔다. 3그녀는 아무 것도 몰랐다. 그녀는 문제를 알아채지 못했다. 4그 여인이 집에 도착했을 때, 그녀는 동이를 내려 놓고 그것이 빈 것을 발견했다.”

(98) Jesus said, “The kingdom of the father is like a certain man who wanted to kill a powerful man. In his own house he drew his sword and stuck it into the wall in order to find out whether his hand could carry through. Then he slew the powerful man.” [제98장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “아버지의 나라는 어떤 힘센 자를 죽이고자 하는 한 사람과 같다. 2집에 있는 동안 그는 그의 칼을 뽑아, 자신의 손이 들어갈 수 있는지 알고자 칼을 벽 속으로 힘차게 찔렀다. 3그렇게 그는 힘센 자를 죽였다.”

(99) The disciples said to him, “Your brothers and your mother are standing outside.” He said to them, “Those here who do the will of my father are my brothers and my mother. It is they who will enter the kingdom of my father.” [제99장] 1따르는 자들이 예수께 말씀드리기를, “당신 형제들과 어머니가 밖에 서 계십니다.” 2예수께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “아버지의 뜻을 행하는 여기 있는 사람들이야말로 나의 형제들이고 나의 어머니이다. 3이들이야말로 아버지의 나라에 들어갈 사람들이다.”

(100) They showed Jesus a gold coin and said to him, “Caesar’s men demand taxes from us.” He said to them, “Give Caesar what belongs to Caesar, give God what belongs to God, and give me what is mine.” [제100장] 1그들이 예수께 금화 한 개를 보이며 말씀드리기를, “카이사의 사람들이 우리에게 세금을 요구합니다.” 2예수께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를, “카이사에게 속한 것은 카이사에게 주어라, 3하나님께 속한 것은 하나님에게 드려라, 4그리고 나의 것은 나에게 달라.”

(101) “Whoever does not hate his father and his mother as I do cannot become a disciple to me. And whoever does not love his father and his mother as I do cannot become a disciple to me. For my mother [...], but my true mother gave me life.” [제101장] 1(예수께서 말씀하시기를) “나처럼 아버지와 어머니를 증오하지 않는 자는 누구든지 나를 따르는 자가 될 수 없다, 2그리고 나처럼 아버지와 어머니를 사랑하지 않는 자는 누구든지 나를 따르는 자가 될 수 없다, 3그러나 나의 참된 어머니는 나에게 생명을 주었다.”

(102) Jesus said, “Woe to the pharisees, for they are like a dog sleeping in the manger of oxen, for neither does he eat nor does he let the oxen eat.” [제102장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “바리새인들은 저주를 받으라! 그들은 소 구유에서 잠자는 개와 같다. 그 개는 여물을 먹지도 않으면서 소도 먹지 못하게 하기 때문이다.”

(103) Jesus said, “Fortunate is the man who knows where the brigands will enter, so that he may get up, muster his domain, and arm himself before they invade.” [제103장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “약탈자들이 어디로 들어올지 아는 자는 복되도다, 그리하여 그가 일어나 그의 식솔들을 소집하고, 그들이 침입하기 전에 무장할 수 있기 때문이다.”

(104) They said to Jesus, “Come, let us pray today and let us fast.”Jesus said, “What is the sin that I have committed, or wherein have I been defeated? But when the bridegroom leaves the bridal chamber, then let them fast and pray.” [제104장] 1그들이 예수께 말씀드리기를, “오십시오! 오늘 같이 기도하고 함께 금식합시다.” 2예수께서 말씀하시기를, “내가 도대체 무슨 죄를 범했단 말인가? 아니면 내가 어떻게 몰락했단 말인가? 3차라리 신랑이 신부의 방을 떠날 때, 사람들이 금식하고 기도하게 하라.”

(105) Jesus said, “He who knows the father and the mother will be called the son of a harlot.” [제105장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “누구든지 아버지와 어머니를 아는 자는 창녀의 자식이라 불릴 것이다.”

(106) Jesus said, “When you make the two one, you will become the sons of man, and when you say, ‘Mountain, move away,’ it will move away.” [제106장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “너희가 둘을 하나로 만들 때 사람의 아들들이 될 것이다, 2그리고 너희가 말하기를 ‘산아 여기서 움직여라!’하면 산이 움직일 것이다.”

(107) Jesus said, “The kingdom is like a shepherd who had a hundred sheep. One of them, the largest, went astray. He left the ninety-nine sheep and looked for that one until he found it. When he had gone to such trouble, he said to the sheep, ‘I care for you more than the ninety-nine.’“ [제107장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “나라는 백 마리의 양을 지닌 목자와 같다. 2그 중 가장 큰 한 마리가 길을 잃었다. 그는 아흔아홉 마리를 버려두고 그 한 마리를 발견할 때까지 찾았다. 3그리고 그 모든 수고를 마쳤을 때, 그 양에게 말했다, ‘나는 아흔아홉 마리보다 너를 더 사랑하노라.’”

(108) Jesus said, “He who will drink from my mouth will become like me. I myself shall become he, and the things that are hidden will be revealed to him.” [제108장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “누구든지 나의 입으로부터 나온 것을 마시는 자는 나와 같이 될 것이다. 2나 자신도 그 사람과 같이 될 것이다, 그리고 감추어져 있는 것들이 그에게 드러나리라.”

(109) Jesus said, “The kingdom is like a man who had a hidden treasure in his field without knowing it. And after he died, he left it to his son. The son did not know (about the treasure). He inherited the field and sold it. And the one who bought it went plowing and found the treasure. He began to lend money at interest to whomever he wished.” [제109장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “아버지의 나라는 그의 밭에 보물이 숨겨져 있으나 그것을 모르는 한 사람과 같다. 2그리고 그가 죽었을 때 그는 그의 아들에게 물려주었다. 그 아들도 그것을 알지 못했다. 그는 그 밭을 상속받아 팔아버렸다. 3밭을 산 사람이 밭을 갈다가 그 보물을 발견하였다, 그리고 그가 원하는 누구에게든지 이자를 받고 돈을 빌려주었다.”

(110) Jesus said, “Whoever finds the world and becomes rich, let him renounce the world.” [제110장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “세상을 발견하여 부자가 된 자는 세상을 부정하게 하라.”

(111) Jesus said, “The heavens and the earth will be rolled up in your presence. And the one who lives from the living one will not see death.” Does not Jesus say, “Whoever finds himself is superior to the world?” [제111장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “하늘들과 땅이 너희 면전에서 말려 올라갈 것이다, 2그러나 살아있는 자로부터 살아있는 자는 죽음을 보지 않을 것이다.” 3예수께서 말씀하시지 않는가, “자신을 발견한 사람들은, 그들에게는 세상은 합당하지 않다.”

(112) Jesus said, “Woe to the flesh that depends on the soul; woe to the soul that depends on the flesh.” [제112장] 1예수께서 말씀하시기를, “혼에 매달리는 육신에 저주 있으라! 육신에 매달리는 혼에 저주 있으라!”

(113) His disciples said to him, “When will the kingdom come?” “It will not come by waiting for it. It will not be a matter of saying ‘here it is’ or ‘there it is.’ Rather, the kingdom of the father is spread out upon the earth, and men do not see it.” [제113장] 1예수를 따르는 자들이 말씀드리기를, “나라가 언제 올 것입니까?” 2(예수께서 가라사대,) “나라는 그것을 쳐다본다고 해서 오지 않을 것이다. 3’보라, 여기 있다!’ 혹은 ‘보라, 저기 있다!’고 말할 수도 없다. 오히려, 아버지의 나라는 이 땅 위에 펼쳐져 있으나, 사람들이 그것을 보지 못할 뿐이다.”

(114) Simon Peter said to him, “Let Mary leave us, for women are not worthy of life.” Jesus said, “I myself shall lead her in order to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every woman who will make herself male will enter the kingdom of heaven.” [제114장] 1시몬 베드로”가 그분께 말씀드리기를, “마리아가 우리를 떠나게 하소서. 여인은 삶을 얻을 자격이 없기 때문입니다.” 2예수께서 말씀하시기를, “보라 내가 그녀를 인도하여 그녀가 남성이 되게 할 것이다, 그리하여 그녀도 너희 남성들을 닮은 살아있는 영이 될 것이다. 3어떤 여인이라도 자신을 남성으로 만드는 자는 하늘 나라에 들어갈 것이다.”
